Bjorn Wiinblad was born in Copenhagen in 1918. At a young age, he
began showing signs of artistic talent, displaying a knack for
painting and creating imaginative worlds. At the age of 17, Wiinblad
embarked on an apprenticeship as a printmaker, but soon realized
that his true calling lay in the path of an artist.

He was admitted to the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts. Despite
being born and trained in Denmark, Wiinblad's style is far from
Danish. Unlike many of his contemporaries in mid-century Denmark
who embraced functionalist aesthetics in design, Wiinblad favored
an intricate romantic style characterized by a rich color palette
and undulating lines, often drawing inspiration from fairy
tales.

His artistic range extended from painting to ceramic art. His
depictions of "1001 Nights" inspired him to create various ceramic
items, such as vases and planters themed around these fairy tales.
Regardless of the surface or medium Wiinblad chose for his
creations, his style was instantly recognizable and truly
impossible to imitate.

Bjorn Wiinblad's dedication to lyrical ceramic design is evident
in his iconic "Magic Flute" series (1959), created for the
Rosenthal porcelain company. This intricately engraved ceramic
tableware collection pays homage to Mozart's opera Zauberflote.
