This Wedgwood jar is a light blue Jasperware dip biscuit jar. The
pattern "Sacrifice to FLORA"was designed by Wedgwood's famous art
designer Lady Templetown. The pattern describes the arrival of spring,
and people offer sacrifices to the spring goddess Flora, hoping that
spring will come and youth will last forever.
這個Wedgwood罐子，是淺藍色Jasperware浸染工藝的餅乾罐。這個圖案"向春天女神獻祭"由Wedgwood著名的藝術設計師Lady
Templetown所設計。圖案描述春天到了，人們對於春天女神Flora獻祭，期盼春天降臨，青春永駐。

Flora (Latin: Flora) is the goddess of spring. In Roman mythology, she
is a symbol of nature and flowers. Her connection to spring lends her
special importance, as does her role as the goddess of youth. She is one
of the fifteen gods who possess their own flames.

Design artist Elizabeth, Lady Templetown (1747-1823, Lady Templetown)
was born in 1747 and came from a noble family. In 1769, she married
Clotworthy Upton. In recognition of his contribution to the royal
family, Upton was created Baron Templeton of Templeton, County Antrim,
Ireland, and Elizabeth became the first Lady Templeton. A widow with
three children in 1785, she managed the family estates in Ireland until
her sons came of age, then retired to Rome, where she died in 1823.

Lady Templeton's paintings attracted the attention of Wedgwood founder
Josiah Wedgwood. Starting in 1783, Wedgwood began to commission several
important pattern designs from her.

Lady Templetown's pattern designs are often made using "Indian paper
cutting". Wedgwood copied 14 reliefs from her designs and acknowledged
her "refined taste" and "charming group" in a 1787 catalog of
ornaments.
